Chicken of the Woods was crucial to my 2023 Appalachian Trail thru-hike, having foraged, cooked and eaten it probably 30% of the time as a delectable part of my dinners. (I even saw a cluster from 40 ft off the trail before!) I knew I wanted to illustrate this fantastic fungi blended in the form of a chicken - so these loopy lashes and googly eye balls came to me, and after a few drafts, there it was - cute, pecky and fluffin’ its stuff.
